Welcome to Sixth Grade Music Class! I am excited to work with all of you! ASSIgnments for sixth grade music Class Fall
Week One: Rhythm composition sixteen measure rhythm composition using all rhythms students know and wish to use.
Week two: Music Theory review: treble and bass clef music papers, unity and contrast, contour assignment.
Week Three: Mozart and the magic Flute: History and appreciation Assignment: Questions about the story of the magic Flute, discussions about opera and opera plots.
Week Four: Introduce the symphonic composition Planets by Gustav Holst: The Composer, the Piece, connections to Astrology and Astronomy
WEek Five: Students will compose their own compositions with connections to a planet and what they have learned about astronomy
WEEK SIX: project planets continued
WEEK SEVEN: STUDENTS WILL WRITE LETTERS TO SOMEONE WHO THEY HAVE LOST. THEY WILL SING "MY DEAR COMPANION" IN PREPARATION FOR THIS WORK.
WEEK EIGHT: STUDENTS WILL RE-WRITE THE SONG "GREENSLEEVES" IN A MODERN VERSION.
WEEK NINE: STUDENTS WILL LEARN TO CONDUCT IN 3/4 TIME AND SING "FAREWELL TO TARWATHIE". THEY WILL ALSO DISCUSS TWO VERSIONS OF ONE SONG.
WEEK TEN: STUDENTS WILL PLAY THE PIANOS IN THE PIANO LAB AND LEARN A SONG OF THEIR CHOICE TO PLAY FOR THE CLASS OR ME.
